No Fail Meringue - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar, divided
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. water
    3 egg whites, at room temperature
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Combine 1/4 cup sugar, cornstarch and salt in a saucepan, stirring constantly.
    Add water and cook over medium heat until mixture comes to boil.
    Boil one minute; cool completely.
    Beat egg whites at high speed of an electric mixer until foamy. Gradually, add remaining 1/4 cup sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating until soft peaks form.
    Add vanilla and cornstarch mixture.
    Beat until stiff peaks form.
    Be sure to seal crust. Yields meringue for one pie.
    Bake pie with meringue on top for 12 to 15 minutes at 350\u00b0.
