Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, shredded
    1 1/2 c. celery, sliced
    3/4 c. green onions, sliced
    1 (8 oz.) can sliced chestnuts, drained
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. thawed peas
    1 green pepper, chopped
    2 c. mayonnaise
    6 tsp. sugar
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. mild Cheddar cheese
    1/4 c. bacon bits
Preparation
    Layer first 6 ingredients in large salad bowl.
    Cover with mayonnaise and sugar mixture.
    Next, sprinkle with Cheddar cheese and bacon bits.
    Do not toss.
    Garnish with cherry tomatoes. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
