Mary Stringer'S Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. water
    1 qt. vinegar
    2 c. kosher salt
    pinch of alum per jar
    1 or 2 cloves garlic per jar
    1 or 2 sprigs dill per jar
    small cucumbers
    1/2 banana pepper per jar (optional)
Preparation
    Bring first 3 ingredients to boil.
    Prepare quart jars with alum, garlic, dill and cucumbers.
    For a little extra spice, add 1/2 banana pepper to the jars.
    Pack jars, pour brine in until 1/2 inch below rim of jar.
    Seal and leave on surface, cover with a towel to avoid draft (do not process).
