Frosted Caramel Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs, beaten
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder
    2 egg whites
    3/4 c. brown sugar
Preparation
    Cream together shortening and sugar.
    Add eggs and beat.
    Stir in dry ingredients and vanilla.
    Spread 1/4-inch thick on flat, greased pan.
    Beat egg whites with brown sugar until stiff.
    Spread on top and bake in 350\u00b0 oven until top turns lightly brown.
    Cool slightly and cut into squares.
