Easy Scalloped Carrots - cooking recipe

1 c. diagonally thin sliced carrots
1/2 c. thinly sliced celery
1/4 c. thinly sliced onion (optional)
1 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. water
1/2 tsp. sugar
salt and pepper to taste
1 Tbsp. flour
2/3 c. half and half
1/3 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
Preparation

Combine carrots, celery, onion, butter, water and sugar in a 1-quart micro-safe casserole dish with cover.
Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Microwave on High, covered, 5 to 6 minutes, or until vegetables are tender-crisp.
Sprinkle flour evenly over vegetables, mixing rapidly with fork until no flour traces remain. Stir in half and half; microwave on High, uncovered, 2 minutes, stirring once, until sauce is thickened and creamy.
Stir in cheese; let stand, covered, for 2 minutes.
