Matrimonial Fruit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. dates
    1 c. water
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 1/2 c. oatmeal
    1 c. butter (you may use part Crisco)
    spill of salt
Preparation
    Cut up dates and boil with water and brown sugar.
    Let cool. Mix flour with soda.
    Add brown sugar, oatmeal and butter.
    Cream all together and pack half on bottom of greased 10 x 7-inch pan. Spoon date mixture over this and cover with rest of crumbs. Sprinkle with small amount of oatmeal.
    Bake slowly at 300\u00b0 for 30 minutes or until set.
    This is a nice holiday recipe that keeps well.
