Betsy'S English Toffee Icebox Dessert - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. finely chopped pecans
    1/4 lb. vanilla wafers, ground
    1 1/2 oz. unsweetened chocolate
    1/2 c. butter
    1 c. powdered sugar
    3 eggs, separated
Preparation
    Combine pecans and vanilla wafer crumbs.
    Spread half on the bottom of a 9-inch square pan.
    Melt the chocolate in a small pan and set aside to cool.
    Cream butter.
    Add sugar, mixing well and then egg yolks.
    Beat until well blended.
    Add chocolate.
    Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into the chocolate mixture. Spread over the crumbs.
    Top with remaining crumbs.
    Chill 24 hours.
    Cut into squares and serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
    Serves 8 or 9.
