Apple Brown Betty - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. fresh whole wheat bread crumbs
    1/4 c. melted butter
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    heavy or light cream
    juice and grated rind of 1/2 lemon
    5 or 6 tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced
    1/2 c. orange juice
Preparation
    With a fork, lightly toss bread crumbs with melted butter. Combine sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and rind to form a paste. Line the bottom of a buttered casserole dish with approximately 1/3 of the bread crumb mixture.
    Spread half of the apples over the crumbs, then half the paste over the apples.
    Repeat this process with crumbs as final layer.
    Pour orange juice evenly over apple mixture.
