Favorite Barbecue Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. Pinto beans
    6 garlic cloves, minced
    1 large onion, chopped
    3 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
    1/3 c. bacon drippings
    2 Tbsp. chili powder
    1/4 tsp. cumin (optional)
    2 ham hocks
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Wash and pick over beans.
    Soak overnight in cold soda water. (Add 1 to 2 tablespoons baking soda to water to help \"de-gas\" them.)
    Drain and rinse thoroughly.
    Cover with water, add ham hocks and simmer gently for 2 hours.
