Chinese Beets - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch or flour
    1 c. vinegar
    24 whole cloves
    3 Tbsp. ketchup
    3 Tbsp. oil
    dash of salt to taste
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 cans (15 1/2 oz.) beets, drain or pour up juice and set aside
    1 large chopped onion
Preparation
    Drain beet juice. Set aside. In saucepan, mix sugar, flour, cloves, salt, vanilla, ketchup and vinegar. Add beet juice. Cook until thick. Add onions. Cut beets into bite size. Add to mixture. Cook over medium heat approximately 3 or 4 minutes. Chill.
