Peanut-Butter Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. crunchy peanut butter
    2/3 c. butter or margarine, softened
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
    3 eggs
    1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. sifted confectioners sugar
    2 tsp. water
    1/4 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces (from a 6 oz. pkg.)
    1 tsp. vegetable shortening
Preparation
    Combine peanut butter, butter or margarine and vanilla in a large bowl; beat until well blended.
    Beat in brown sugar until light and fluffy.
    Beat in eggs, one at a time.
    Stir in flour and salt just until well blended.
    Spread batter in a greased 12 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
    Bake in moderate oven (350\u00b0) for 35 minutes or until the center springs back when lightly touched with fingertip. Remove pan from oven to wire rack; cool slightly.
