Ingredients

1 c. chopped dates
1 c. milk
1 c. nuts
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
pinch of salt
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
Preparation

Boil 1 1/2 cups brown sugar and 1 1/2 cups water about 5 minutes.
Cool.
Prepare batter, mixing first 8 ingredients.
Pour cooled brown sugar mixture into square baking pan and pour batter on top.
Bake 1 hour at 325\u00b0.
Serve warm or cool topped with whipped cream.
