Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (7 oz.) pkg. sliced dates
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    2 tsp. baking soda
    2 Tbsp. butter
    2 egg yolks
    2 egg whites
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    3 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped walnuts
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Scald dates; sprinkle dates with baking soda.
    Add butter; let cool and set aside.
    Beat egg yolks.
    Add sugar, salt and flour; beat together.
    Add chopped nuts.
    Add date mixture; beat.
    Fold in 2 egg whites (stiffly beaten); bake in a slow oven (225\u00b0 to 250\u00b0) for 1 hour.
    Makes 2 (8 1/2 x 2 x 4-inch) loaves or 1 (13 x 4 1/2 x 2-inch) loaf.
