Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 medium onions, sliced
    30 (6-inch) cucumbers, sliced
    5 Tbsp. salt
    1 1/4 Tbsp. alum
    6 1/2 c. vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    3 tsp. celery seed
    2 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    2 1/2 tsp. ginger
    8 oz. jar orange marmalade
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. cranberry juice
    1/2 c. water
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. yellow mustard seed
    1/4 tsp. ground cloves
    12 oz. bag fresh cranberries, picked over
Preparation
    Place the marmalade, sugar, cranberry juice, water, cinnamon, mustard seed and cloves in a 6-quart nonreactive casserole.
    Cover and cook over low heat until every last granule of sugar is dissolved.
    Uncover; bring to a boil and boil 1 minute; add the cranberries and cook until they pop.
    Cool completely.
