Old-Time Strawberry Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. butter
    1 beaten egg
    1/2 c. light cream
    4 c. sliced sweetened strawberries
    whipped cream or milk
Preparation
    Sift
    together dry ingredients.
    Cut in shortening until mixture resembles
    coarse
    crumbs.
    Combine
    egg and cream.
    Add, stirring just until
    dough
    follows
    the
    fork
    around bowl.
    Roll on lightly floured surface to
    1-inch
    thickness
    (or put in pie tin and bake); cut with 2 1/2-inch cutter.
    Bake
    on ungreased sheet at 425\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes. When done, split.
    Spoon berries between layers and on top.
    Serve with milk or whipped cream.
