Coffee Liqueur - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    4 c. water
    2 oz. powdered instant coffee (do not use freeze-dried)
    1 vanilla bean
    1 fifth inexpensive vodka
Preparation
    Mix sugar and water in a saucepan; bring to a boil.
    Boil 5 minutes.
    Remove from heat and stir in the coffee; cool.
    Put vodka and vanilla bean, sliced lengthwise and cut into shorter pieces, into the cooled syrup.
    Pour into sterilized half gallon bottles and let stand for 30 days.
    Up end the bottle occasionally.
    Strain into sterilized bottles and can or cork.
