Bread And Butter Pickle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 quarts sliced cucumbers
    2 quarts of sliced onion rings
    1/2 cup salt
    1 quart vinegar
    1 tsp. turmeric
    2 tsp. celery seeds
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 Tbsp. white pepper
    4 cups sugar
Preparation
    Mix 2 quarts ice cubes with cucumbers, onions, and salt.
    Let stand for 3 hours and drain thoroughly.
    Make a pickling syrup with the remaining ingredients and let come to a boil.
    Add cucumber mixture and reheat to scalding, but do not boil.
    Pour in jars and seal.
