Spiced Candy Apple Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 lb. apples, cored
    2 qt. water + 2 Tbsp. vinegar
    1 Tbsp. cloves
    1 Tbsp. nutmeg
    3 c. water
    4 oz. cinnamon red hots
    1 Tbsp. allspice
    6 c. sugar
    3/4 c. vinegar
    1 lemon
Preparation
    Cut apples into 1/2-inch slices.
    Place in vinegar water to prevent browning.
    Tie cloves, allspice and nutmeg in a spice bag. Combine sugar, water, vinegar and red hots, spice bag and lemon. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
    Reduce heat and simmer 3 minutes.
    Stir until candy is dissolved.
    Drain apples and add to syrup.
    Simmer 5 minutes.
