Mrs. Barrow'S Rolls - cooking recipe
Ingredients
-
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. warm water (not hot)
3/4 c. milk, scalded
2 heaping Tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg, slightly beaten
about 4 c. flour
Preparation
-
Dissolve yeast in warm water in large mixing bowl.
Set aside. Scald milk.
While it is still hot, add shortening, sugar and salt. Stir until dissolved and cool to lukewarm.
Mix with yeast mixture, egg and enough flour to beat with heavy spoon or dough hook in mixer.
Beat well and add remaining flour to knead.
Knead well and put into greased bowl to rise until doubled in bulk.
Make into rolls and place in greased baking dish, rolling each roll lightly in shortening to keep them from sticking together.
Let rise until double again.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for about 25 minutes.
