Ingredients

3/4 c. chopped, pitted dates
6 Tbsp. sugar
6 Tbsp. water
1/4 c. chopped nuts
2 tsp. lemon juice
2 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2/3 c. butter or margarine
1 1/4 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. orange zest
1 egg
1 Tbsp. vinegar
Preparation

Combine dates, white sugar and water.
Cook until thick (about 5 minutes).
Remove from heat and add nuts and lemon juice.
Cool.
