Red Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 medium head red cabbage
    1 medium sweet onion
    2 large apples
    1 Tbsp. oleo
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 1/4 c. water
    1 c. vinegar
    1 bay leaf
    2 whole allspice
    2 cloves
    6 peppercorns
Preparation
    Wash and remove outer leaves of cabbage.
    Remove core and slice.
    Peel and slice onion.
    Peel and core apples.
    Toss together.
    Add rest of ingredients to mixture.
    Simmer in oleo 1 1/2 hours, covered.
    Thicken slightly with small amount of cornstarch by using some of the juice to mix with cornstarch. Make paste and add gradually to cabbage while stirring.
    Serves 4 to 6.
