Apple Caramel Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. milk
    1/4 c. shortening
    1 egg
    1 1/4 c. brown sugar
    1 1/2 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. double-acting baking powder
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. allspice
    1/2 c. boiling water
    1 c. chopped, raw apples, unpeeled
Preparation
    Put everything but last 2 ingredients into bowl in order given.
    Add boiling water and beat batter just until smooth with an electric mixer (or egg beater) on half speed.
    Stir in apples that are not peeled but have been quartered and chopped.
    Pour into 2 greased, round cake pans and bake in moderate oven at 375\u00b0 for about 30 minutes or until done.
