Baked Sweet Onions (Vidalias) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 lb. large sweet onions
    1/4 c. butter or margarine, melted
    1 (10 3/4 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
    1 c. half and half
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 c. (4 oz.) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
    8 (3/4-inch thick) slices French bread
    3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
Preparation
    Slice onions; cut each slice in half.
    Saute onions in 1/4 cup butter in a Dutch oven until crisp-tender; spoon into lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.
