Canadian War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. brown sugar
    2 c. hot water
    4 Tbsp. lard
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 c. raisins
Preparation
    Boil all these ingredients for five minutes after they begin bubbling.
    When cold, add 3 cups flour and 2 teaspoons of soda, dissolved in a little hot water.
    Bake slowly 1 hour.
