Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large pkg. dates (1 1/2 c. cut in large pieces)
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. butter
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1 1/2 c. flour
    2 rings candied pineapple, cut
    1 c. boiling water
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. Brazil nuts, coarsely cut
    1/4 lb. candied cherries, cut
Preparation
    Pour water over dates and soda; let stand while mixing batter. Mix batter and pour into the date mixture.
    Bake in a loaf or tube pan.
    Bake at 275\u00b0 for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
