bread (French bread)
8 eggs
3 c. milk
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. vanilla
3 to 4 apples
2 Tbsp. margarine
Preparation

Preheat oven to 400\u00b0. Spray 9 x 13-inch pan with nonstick vegetable spray. Cut bread into 1 1/2-inch slices with serrated knife and arrange closely in a single layer in pan. In bowl, beat eggs lightly. Beat in milk, 1/4 cup of the sugar and vanilla, using whisk. Pour half of egg-milk mixture over bread. Peel, core and slice apples. Arrange apple rings evenly over bread in pan. Pour remaining egg-milk mixture over apples. Mix remaining 1/2 cup sugar with cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over apples. Dot with margarine. Bake 35 to 40 minutes. Cool 5 to 10 minutes, then cut into squares and serve with maple syrup.
