Josephine Armour Apple Dumplins - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 c. butter
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. black pepper
    1/2 c. milk
    2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    6 medium apples
    1 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. shortening
Preparation
    Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg.
    Bring to a boil. Add butter.
    Peel and core apples.
    Sift flour, salt and black pepper.
    Cut in shortening.
    Add milk all at once.
    Mix just until flour is moistened.
    Roll 1/4-inch thick.
    Roll into squares. Place one apple in each square.
    Fold.
    Sprinkle generously with sugar and spices.
    Dot with butter.
    Place 1-inch apart in baking dish.
    Pour mixture over apples.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 minutes. Serve hot with cream.
