Spoon Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. milk, scalded
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    3 eggs, separated
    1/2 c. cornmeal
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    2 Tbsp. melted butter
Preparation
    Scald milk.
    Add the cornmeal and cook until thick.
    Add salt, baking powder, sugar and butter.
    Beat the egg yolks and add to cornmeal mixture.
    Beat the egg whites to a soft peak and fold into the batter.
    Pour into a well-buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole and bake uncovered in a 375\u00b0 oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
    Grits may be substituted for the cornmeal.
    This recipe may be cut in half but use 2 eggs.
