Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 egg
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. dark syrup
    1 c. hot water
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Add egg.
    Sift dry ingredients. Mix syrup and hot water.
    Add dry ingredients and liquid alternately.
    Bake in floured pan, 9 x 9 x 2-inch at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
