Ingredients

1/4 lb. butter
1/4 lb. margarine
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. light brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream butter and margarine, then add sugars.
When mixed well add rest of ingredients.
Roll into balls by teaspoon size portions of dough.
May need to add flour to handle and reduce stickiness.
Dip the top of each ball into cold water then into sugar.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 400\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Cookies will be lightly brown.
