Farm House Pound Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. butter
    2 c. sugar
    2 tsp. vanilla
    8 large eggs, separated
    3 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    pinch of salt
    1/2 tsp. almond or 1 tsp. lemon extract or 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Preparation
    Cream butter, gradually adding sugar, beating well.
    Blend in flavorings.
    Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored.
    Stir into creamed mixture.
    Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
    Add to egg mixture 1/3 at a time, stirring well after each addition. Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry.
    Fold into batter until just patches of egg white disappear.
    Pour into buttered, lightly floured 10-inch ring tube pan.
    Bake in preheated 350\u00b0 oven for 30 minutes.
    Reduce oven temperature to 300\u00b0 and cook 30 minutes longer or until cake is done.
    Remove from pan, cool on wire rack. Serve with fruit preserves.
