Baking Powder Biscuits - cooking recipe

2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, unbeaten
2/3 c. milk
Preparation

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tartar into a mixing bowl.
Add the shortening to the flour mixture and blend together until cornmeal-like consistency.
Pour milk into flour mixture slowly.
Add the egg and stir all together until a stiff dough.
Put on a lightly floured board and knead 5 times. Roll out to one-half inch thickness; cut with a floured biscuit cutter.
Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 10 to 15 minutes at 400\u00b0.
