English Almond Toffee - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2/3 c. butter or margarine
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/3 c. water
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2/3 c. blanched almonds
    1/4 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate
    1/2 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Cook the first five ingredients over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils.
    Cook, without stirring, to 236\u00b0 or until a little dropped in cold water forms soft ball.
    Add 2/3 cup blanched almonds.
    Continue cooking to 290\u00b0 (soft crack stage), stirring constantly.
    Remove from heat.
    Mixture turns to a deep caramel color.
    Stir in baking soda.
