Placerville Angel Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. (approximately) sugar
    1 c. (approximately) flour
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    12 hen eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Take 1 pound soda box, cut 2 1/2 inches from bottom and fill with sugar.
    Sift sugar 7 times.
    Fill your \"measuring box\" with flour and 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar.
    Sift this mixture 7 times.
    Separate the 12 eggs and beat egg whites with a metal whisk into a stiff froth.
    Beat into the egg whites the sugar and flour, a little at a time (3 spoonfuls of sugar, then flour) until all is gone.
    Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
