1 c. sugar
1/4 c. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs yolks, beaten
1 c. chopped dates

Preparation

Combine sugar, cornstarch, spices and salt in saucepan; blend thoroughly.
Gradually stir in buttermilk and egg yolks.
Add dates.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture boils and thickens.
Cool slightly.
Pour into a 9-inch baked pie shell.
Top with meringue and brown or chill pie thoroughly and serve with whipped cream.
