Corn Dog Bites - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    vegetable oil (for deep fryer)
    1 1/2 c. self-rising meal
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 1/4 c. buttermilk
    1 egg
    2 Tbsp. melted shortening
    1 lb. hot dogs
Preparation
    Heat 2 to 3 inches of oil in deep fryer to 375\u00b0.
    Combine cornmeal, sugar and soda.
    Beat 1 1/4 cups buttermilk, egg and shortening together with a fork.
    Stir liquid mixture into dry ingredients until thoroughly blended.
