1917 War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. corn syrup
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. cold water
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. Crisco
2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Preparation

Put the first 6 ingredients in saucepan; cook for 3 minutes. After mixture reaches boiling point, add Crisco when cool.
Add soda, dissolved in a little hot water.
Add flour and baking powder; stir.
Pour into tube pan; bake for 1 hour at 350\u00b0.
