Gay'S Favorite Strawberry Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
3 egg yolks
5 Tbsp. +/- milk
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
3 egg whites
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 +/- c. walnuts, broken
2 c. heavy cream, whipped and sweetened
strawberry or other fruit (blueberries, peaches, etc.)
Preparation

Cream together first 3 ingredients; add milk, flour, baking powder, almond extract and vanilla.
Mix with electric mixer. Grease 2 (7-inch) cake pans.
Flour inside.
Whip egg whites with sugar and cream of tartar until stiff.
Divide batter into cake pan; cover with whipped egg whites to form peaks.
Sprinkle chopped nuts over both layers.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in 350\u00b0 oven until tester comes out clean.
Cool on rack.
Assemble cake. Place first layer with meringue on bottom.
Put strawberries (frozen) and juice in center with whipped cream.
Add upper layer with meringue up.
Put rest of cream over cake.
Garnish with fresh strawberries.
