Queen Elizabeth'S Cake (1954) - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. boiling water
1 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts
5 Tbsp. brown sugar
5 Tbsp. cream
2 Tbsp. butter

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Pour water over the dates and baking soda.
Let stand.
Cream sugar and butter.
Add egg and vanilla. Add the flour, baking powder and salt, that have been mixed together.
Add to the date mixture.
Stir in 1/2 cup nuts.
Pour into a loaf pan and bake 35 minutes.
Cool.
Combine brown sugar, cream and butter in a small pan.
Boil for 3 minutes and spread over cake.
Sprinkle with additional nuts and coconut.
