Basic Pound Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. butter
    9 large eggs, separated
    2 tsp. vanilla
    3 1/2 c. sifted flour
    3/4 tsp. salt
    2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. lemon or orange extract (optional)
Preparation
    Cream the butter with electric mixer until fluffy. Cream in the sugar. Beat in egg yolks, one at a time, on medium-high speed. Batter should have the consistency of heavy whipped cream. Stir in vanilla and lemon extracts.
    Sift flour with salt twice.
    Beat butter into mixture at lowest speed.
    Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Fold into cake batter.
    Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 x 5-inch loaf pans and bake in a preheated 325\u00b0 oven for 60 minutes.
