Ingredients

1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 whole eggs (add 1 at a time)
1 c. strawberry preserves
3 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 scant tsp. baking soda, dissolved in buttermilk
Preparation

Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, beating well after each addition.
Add
jam.
Beat well.
Add soda to buttermilk.
Add flour, salt and spices alternately with milk, beating vigorously after each addition.
Line two 9-inch pans, greased, with a round of waxed paper.
Lightly flour.
Pour batter into pan and bake 45 minutes at 350\u00b0.
Ice with Caramel Frosting.
