Cranberry Nutmeg Loaf - cooking recipe

1 c. sugar
2 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 to 2 c. flour
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 2/3 c. cranberries
1/2 c. shortening or margarine
1/4 c. nuts
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Makes sheet cake (9 x 13-inches) or 2 loaves.
Cream sugar and shortening.
Add egg yolk (well beaten) and add milk.
Sift together flour, nutmeg, baking soda and stir into sugar mixture.
Beat egg whites until stiff.
Then fold egg whites into batter.
Add cranberries and nuts.
Bake 45 minutes (sheet cake) or 55 minutes (loaves) or until brown and firm.
