German Red Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head red cabbage, shredded fine
    1 medium onion
    2 apples
    1 bay leaf
    1 tsp. sugar
    2 Tbsp. butter
    2 c. water
    1 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. vinegar
Preparation
    Saute onion in butter.
    Add cabbage.
    Peel and dice apples. Add salt and sugar.
    Add 2 cups of water and 1 bay leaf.
    Add vinegar; simmer 1 hour, covered.
    Check for doneness.
    Add more vinegar and salt for taste.
