Black Walnut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 c. sugar
    5 eggs, separated
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. black walnuts
    1 c. coconut
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    Cream Cheese Frosting
    chopped black walnuts
Preparation
    Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugar.
    Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well.
    Combine buttermilk and soda. Stir until soda dissolves.
    Add flour to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
    Mix after each addition.
    Stir in vanilla.
    Add 1 cup black walnuts and coconut.
    Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff. Fold into batter.
