Date And Nut Cake(Pudding) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1 c. boiling water
    1 c. seeded, chopped dates
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1 c. sugar
    1 beaten egg
    pinch of salt
    vanilla
    1 c. nut meats (preferably Brazil nuts)
    1 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
    1 scant tsp. cream of tartar
    maraschino cherries, if desired
Preparation
    Pour soda mixture over dates.
    Let cool.
    Cream butter and sugar; add egg, salt and vanilla.
    Next add dates and their liquid and nuts.
    Sift flour with cream of tartar and beat this in last. Add cherries.
    The batter will be quite thin.
    Pour into greased glass baking dish; bake at 300\u00b0 for an hour or until done.
    Serve in sherbet glasses with a spoonful of whipped cream or any cake sauce.
