Date Bars - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 egg
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. dates, seeded and cut in pieces
1 c. nuts, chopped
1/2 c. milk
1 c. flour
Preparation

Beat egg and add sugar gradually.
Add milk; blend in the flour to which has been added the baking powder.
Mix dates and nuts together with part of the flour.
Add to cake mix with vanilla. Pour into an oiled baking dish and bake about 30 minutes in moderate oven.
When sufficiently baked, remove from pan and place on rack for a few minutes.
Cut the cake into halves.
Then cut each half into narrow strips about 1-inch wide and 4 1/2 inches long.
Roll each strip in powdered sugar and store in a tightly covered box.
