Ingredients

1/4 c. butter
3 large onions, sliced
1 tsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. flour
2 1/2 c. water
1/2 c. red dry wine
2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans beef broth
Swiss or Mozzarella cheese
slices of French bread
Preparation

Cut bread in 1-inch slices and toast at 325\u00b0 for 10 minutes. Cook onions and sugar 10 minutes in butter; stir in flour.
Add water, wine and broth; heat to boiling.
Reduce to low and simmer 10 minutes.
Put in ovenproof bowls.
Place bread slices and cheese on each.
Bake at 425\u00b0 for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.
