Ev'S Shortcake(The Only Real Shortcake) - cooking recipe

Ingredients

2 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt (if desired)
1 egg
1 1/4 Tbsp. shortening
1/3 c. butter
1/3 c. milk

Preparation

Mix flour,
sugar, baking powder, butter and shortening as for biscuits.
With
a
fork,
beat egg into milk.
Add and mix.
Bake in
greased
round pie or cake pan about 20 minutes in 400\u00b0 oven. Cool
only
slightly.
With
sharp,
long knife split into two flat
slabs.
Remove
to
large serving plate. Butter bottom
slab generously.
Add
layer
of sugared fruit (strawberries, peaches or boysenberries).
Cover with top slab and add rest of fruit so it spills onto sides of plate.
