Dark Fruit Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 lb. candied cherries
1/2 lb. candied pineapple
1 lb. butter
1 lb. dark brown sugar
4 c. flour
1 lb. raisins
1 lb. figs
1/2 lb. citron
1 wine glass sherry, brandy or 1/3 c. any desired fruit juice
1 c. molasses
6 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3 tsp. cloves
3 tsp. cinnamon
3 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 lb. nut meats (pecans, walnuts, almonds or mixed)
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar.
Add beaten eggs.
Sift flour and measure.
Take out 1 cup for dusting cut up fruit.
Sift the rest with the spices and dry ingredients.
Add flour mixture, fruit and nuts alternately with molasses and wine to egg and butter mixture. Mix well, using a large bowl.
Hands do the best job.
