Split Pea And Ham Soup - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 large garlic cloves, minced
2 large onions, finely chopped
9 to 10 c. water
1 smoked pork picnic shank (about 3 1/2 lb. without bones)
2 c. dry green split peas
2 bay leaves
2 large carrots, thinly sliced
1/4 c. finely chopped fresh parsley
2 large stalks celery, sliced
1/2 tsp. each thyme, marjoram, celery salt and black pepper
salt to taste
Preparation

In large pot, combine oil, onions and garlic and cook until onions are tender.
Add all remaining ingredients except salt. Boil, then lower heat and cook 90 minutes.
Remove meat and bone. Skim fat.
Cut up meat and return to soup.
Discard bay leaves. Stir well before serving.
